Employment Opportunities: UW Aboriginal Services is currently hiring.

Please see the University of Waterloo Human Resources Website for two the ongoing contract positions 1. Aboriginal Student Services Coordinator and 2. Recruitment and Communications Specialist. These positions will remain open for application until February 28th.

UW Aboriginal Services is currently hiring for a short term contract for our UW DIRECTIONS Conference Program Assistant. This one month contract - from March 29- April 30 2010 is remunerated accordingly. If you like working with high school students this would be a great position for you! University and College students are welcome to apply. Contact us at the Aboriginal Services Office for more details.

Mission

The services provided by our Office are premised on understanding, respect, and trust as well as a recognition of and sensitivity to the different cultural values and rights of Aboriginal Peoples and cultures.

We provide culturally relevant information, faciliate the sharing of Indigenous Knowledges, and provide support services for all members of the UW community including Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal students, staff, and faculty.

We also work in partnership with other KW region Aboriginal community services and organizations.

Everyone is welcome to use our services.

UW Aboriginal Services Provides:

Culturally relevant academic and personal development supports
Links for students, faculty, and staff to the Kitchener/Waterloo Aboriginal community services, people, and organizations
Development and delivery of Aboriginal specific recruitment and retention services
Academic Support Centre
Elders to support our students, faculty, and staff
Aboriginal youth with opportunities to explore their post-secondary options through the UW D.I.R.E.C.T.I.O.N.S. program
Assistance with applications and documentation
Management and promotion of cultural events on campus
Good food and company on Soup and Fry Bread Days in our Aboriginal Student Lounge
Aboriginal students home away from home in our student lounge
Aboriginal scholarship and grant information
Opportunities for employment skills developed through on-site jobs and training
Coordination of volunteer services for Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people to share their skills and knowledge through our events and services
Coordination and oversight of the Elders and Youth Aboriginal Education Council
